Megane?
And no it's not weird at all ... plenty of people here would trade a bit of Japanese/Korean reliability for a little bit of French ... otherness.
sm70- why not Duesenberg?

Why can't Nissan bring some of these Renaults over as Nissans? It's not like Nissan's cars are too conservative for french style plus they share multiple components and are almost styled similarly

Nope. I think the Vel Satis and the Avantime are two of the best cars La Régie has put out in the last 20 years. French cool.

No (I actually owned a Megane for some time), that's a Vel Satis, Renault's luxobarge.

Clarkson recommended a Vel Satis to another TV presenter, and she loves it. Is this the descendent of the Avantime? That's a car I could definitely DD.

It looks awesome. Nissan should sell them over here.

I don't think so, the Vel Satis is a direct descendant of the Safrane.
I would love to DD an Avantime.

It is a luxury large hatchback coupe tall thing, Nissan needs that.

As weird and as French as the Vel Satis might have been, the styling sort of reminds me of a giant Opel Astra hatchback.
I don't understand why.

I especially like the wheels on the top car. And part of what I like about French cars is if you strip the badges off them, you can still tell it is French, or at least no Japanese/Korean. People who are not as sensitive as we are, confronted with, say, an Altima, a Camry, an Accord, a Sonata, and whatever else is in the class without badges could not figure it out. We can, but we're knuckleheads. But put a debadged C6 (my ultimate car) next to an S-Class, and even a non-enthusiast could tell. The French copy no one ....

And that gives them character. Every single french car has it's quirks, something that separates them from the pack. The C6 incorporates all those things, it will always be the perfect car IMO and the reason why I bought the C5.

I guess that's also why I liked SAAB so much. Even under GM they kept being weird and swedish, they ignored the common sense and built what they thought was best. SAAB never stopped being SAAB.

Imagine if Nissan decided to sell it in the US.

I 100% agree with you. The Safrane makes me curious though, I have never seen one.

The Astra H, a.k.a. the one they sold here as a Saturn.

Hartge Safranes are Jalop heaven. Twin-turbo, AWD, manual only, french hatchback. I wanted one for quite some time now.

Why on earth would Nissan sell it?

It would be hard since Renault stopped producing them a few years back. It was not a great seller, and people would rather get a german car than a Vel Satis, despite it being a great car.
